How To Maintain Motivation In The Gym And In Life

SUMMARY:

  1. Set goals

  2. Don’t take setbacks to heart

  3. Do what you enjoy

  4. Be the solution to your own problem

I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes I just don’t feel like training.

It’s pouring down with rain outside, I am in my dragon onesie curled up on the sofa and all I feel like doing is… well....nothing.

BUT… what motivates me is I hate the thought of not being productive and I know that if I go to the gym then I will feel loads better after my session, than I did before. Get yourself to the gym. Put on your favourite playlist and you’ll probably find you actually are motivated to train. This is what I did last week. I couldn't be bothered to train and I ended up getting a PB of 200kg leg press for 5 reps (see Instagram @fitnessandendorphins). As the famous Nike slogan goes....'Just do it'!

And if you still don't feel motivated to train...perhaps, it's as simple as changing up your workout routine to gain motivation or setting yourself gym related goals.

You can relate this to training, but you can also relate it to every day life. Ask yourself why you’re not motivated. Perhaps you can’t stand the thought of work. If this is the case, ask yourself why.  Is it because you don’t enjoy your job? Then maybe its time to apply for a new one.

I like to think of things as equations (does this make me look clever? I hope so):

Problem + Solution= Problem solved. It’s as simple as that.

In life, we often give ourselves problems, but what we don’t do is reflect and find solutions. So think about the things that wind you up and annoy you. Ask yourself….can I change this? If so, change it and you have solved a problem and will find you’re a happier person.

If you can’t change it, then let it be and think of ways that you can put a positive spin on your life, because you are the actor to your own happiness and when you’re positive you will find that you enjoy life a lot more!

I hope this blog helps you or helps you to help others. Bit of a mixed one on exercise and lifestyle, but keep a look out for some more fitness related blogs in the next coming weeks.
